PETA has received shocking information that the US subsidiary of massive UK-based security firm G4S has recently hosted a cruel and deadly US Army trauma training course using animals. A whistleblower within the company told PETA's US affiliate that live pigs were allegedly shot and cut open during the course. G4S has confirmed that it "allows the U.S. Government to use its facilities for trauma medicine combat-related training which sometimes includes the use of animals".
Responding to protests from PETA US and Indian MP Maneka Gandhi, who called on G4S to remove her statement praising the company from its website, the company took down its misleading "Caring for Animals" web page and has stated that "there is no future training of this nature scheduled …". However, G4S has not yet committed to permanently prohibiting all trauma training exercises on animals.
In the UK, the use of animals for trauma training is not permitted, and British Armed Forces do not conduct such exercises here. Similarly, the German military has stated that its "armed forces do no animal tests for training purposes"; instead "the soldiers learn with really good models and the doctors don't need animal experiments". In the US, experts at the military's Uniformed Services University have stated that the use of animals for trauma training is "not really a very good method", and a number of American military training facilities do not use any animals at all.
Please send a polite letter to G4S and urge the company to end all trauma exercises on animals permanently and instead use only non-animal training methods.
