Dear Mr Venters,

I am horrified by PETA's shocking new investigation which reveals the mistreatment of geese at the foie gras farms in France that Fortnum & Mason's distributor sources from. I urge you to end Fortnum & Mason's involvement in the cruel foie gras trade immediately.

There is quite simply no way to produce foie gras humanely. To force-feed birds until their livers swell to up to 10 times their normal size is morally repugnant. PETA's video footage of terrified geese – some of whom are so ill that they can't even stand – having metal pipes rammed down their throats and huge amounts of grain pumped into their stomachs is tarnishing Fortnum & Mason's once proud history.

A store which trades on its British heritage should not be supporting a product so vile that its production is outlawed in the UK and many other countries. As Fortnum & Mason's new managing director, you have the authority to end the store's shameful support of this barbaric trade today.

Please take a stand against cruelty to animals and pledge never to sell or serve foie gras at Fortnum & Mason again.
